Ten Ways Jo Kelly Coaches People To Become Great Actors--Online

May 4, 2024

Jo Kelly isn't your average acting teacher.

Actually she isn't using the term "teacher" even once "I am not giving people instructions on how to behave" she adds. "I aid people to not behave."

Through exercises that simulate the real world, Jo coaches mainly actors and other artists of every kind and non artist "seekers" about how they can find inner freedom and become their most authentic selves. This way, actors can stop acting and start acting and becoming. "I prefer to think of myself as an acupuncturist more than a teacher, since I assist people in coming back to their truth and get reborn," she explains.

She believes the success of an actor depends on their satisfaction and the ability to dedicate themselves completely to the character they play. "When the character is defended completely, the story is told and the audience are impacted" she says.

With her distinctive style of teaching performers she assists them in tapping into their childlike imagination, fascination and fun. The result? They give truthful, alive, and raw shows.

In the year 2016, Jo transitioned from in-person coaching and started an online business via . Since, she's created three consecutive educational journeys, and she's provided over 8,000 individuals. Their students have experienced incredible successes since they worked with Jo and also have secured roles in some of the largest studios, including Netflix, HBO, Disney, Showtime, ABC Studios as well as many more.

Here's how she built an online business that she's passionate about:

She researched her topic.

Jo was a unique path into acting.

Born in Belgium She earned her MBA after which she specialized on human resources management as well as psychosystemic psychology. After that, she worked in corporate coaching. "The corporate world never felt exactly like the one I was used to," she shares. "I decided to drop everything, move to Paris to start afresh. ."

One of the reasons she decided to start over was trying her hand at acting, which she fell in over. She was dedicated, diligent and put all her money and time into learning how to be the best actor she could be.

Despite her dedication to her profession her mother says she was a decent actor but not a top actor. Much like many actors, she had stage fright. "Most of my colleagues in the acting field were suffering from similar issues," she says. "We were extremely passionate about acting, however when it was our turn to play we were nervous. ."

She was interested in the factors that prevented her and others from becoming excellent actors. "My curiosity became an obsession," the actress says. "I wanted to know why actors who are so committed and devoted reduce their act ."

For the next several years, she studied how actors could feel restricted. Her study led to an understanding that when children play, they're at liberty. Whereas when adults play the same way, they've been deprived of their independence because of societal pressures. "When I realized that, I spent the rest of my time really helping actors unlearn their conditioning to allow them to show up and be themselves in the same way that they used to have," explains Jo.

She started coaching

Jo's research experience led her to explore different somatic tools and practices that she later tried with other clients by private or group coaching sessions in the beginning of 2000. A few years later Jo named her company to Be Or Not To Act.

Soon, she realized that her students were lacked commitment. "No no matter how dedicated the people I worked with were, they weren't able to show up everyday. Even if we met at least three times per week however, there wasn't any accountability between sessions. People would drop the ball without a problem if they were not with me," Jo says. Jo.

She decided that online courses would help people to remain consistent in their routine. Her online classes in the form of "journeys," and the initial journey that she guides people on will be The Reset: From Resistance to Freedom, which she created in 2014. "I created The Reset so that I could help people through an entire 33 days," she explains.
"Since that it's on the internet, individuals can access it on their own time and create their own schedules."

Jo believes that we were born with an authentic nature, but societal conditioning asks us to act in a certain way, to think and behave the way we do. According to her, the purpose for The Reset is for people to go through daily exercises that help to remove their conditioned behavior and revert back to their original instincts. Every day, in The Reset, Jo offers pre-recorded exercises. She also provides 2 Q&A as well as two hours of group work using pods and one semi-Q&A where Jo answers frequently asked questions on a private Facebook group.

The flexibility offered by an online adventure makes it possible for Jo's members to participate in the lessons at any time in time; when they wake up, before they sleep or any time they've got free time during the day. "The best part is that it allows them to make them fit into their lives," she explains.

She created an online company that gave her a flexible life style

When Jo first started her website Reset adventure, she was running every single session held posted on her website. A couple of years later she switched over to the platform after being recommended to the platform through her trainer. "You guys know exactly what you're doing and I'm not," she chuckles.

In the last few years, since she entered coaching via the internet, Jo's life has changed. At the time of the interview, she was calling from the hospital, where she was spending time with her daughter. "Eight years ago my daughter was born with a genetic specification this means she needs hospital care every month," she says.

" allows me to be a mother and manage the rest of my life while keeping an online business operating, even while in the hospital as my daughter is receiving her regular transfusions" she continues. "Working online allows me to care for my daughter the way I would like to and be always at home to her. It allows me to go to hospital for medical needs and yet have a career I'm passionate about, without stress. ."

She created subsequent journeys

After people have completed The Reset, they have the choice of joining the three-month course called The Aimful Actor. The Purposeful Actor journey is a 3-hour class for twelve weeks. "The students in this class are a little more on their own with regards to accountability and showing up for themselves. There are some routines to do everyday, but they can't rely on me to accomplish it; they have to think of their own goals, and that is why they are here." Jo shares.

Jo also offers Q&A sessions during the Purposeful Actor Journey and each week for three weeks. Once people have successfully completed the Purposeful Journey you can choose to enroll in a membership known as BAMF Actors In Action, that stands for Bad-Ass Mother F***king Actors In Action. "I started this program because those who have completed both of the journeys would like to continue practicing on this pathway," she says.

The program has been in operation for four years and it offers a content-based monthly session, group work via weekly pods, weekly Q&A with Jo as well as a 6-hour summit each three months. "The membership helps people determine what they'll do to go out into the world, do what they're meant to do, get connected with industry professionals, write the content they want to create, and improve their game," she explains.

She worked with musicians of all sorts

According to Jo, most of her clients during her journeys include actors. But there are others who are artists including dancers, writers storiestellers and even singers along with regular people who "want to move through their conditioning," such as mothers as well as professionals such as pro athletes as well as TV hosts and therapists. "Freedom is a concern to anyone who wants to be fully expressed," she says.

As the trips are provided in English the journeys attract travelers all over the world. "We are a diverse group of people, from every continent, however the majority of people are from America, Europe, and Australia," she shares.

The majority of her listeners are aged between 20 and 50. She also has some people in their third stage of their lives, and it's not uncommon for her to invite those aged 70 and over to join her on her journeys.

The client let her do the talking

In terms of advertising her travels, Jo says the word was spread via word of word of.

On the homepage of her site, she's included the video reel of her testimonial. It provides social proof and adds credibility to the work she does. Visitors to her website can subscribe to her newsletter via her site. To collect email addresses, she offers a couple of free workshops as lead-generators: Stop Trying To Be A Great Actor to Give Yourself The Chance To Be Great and The Instinctive Actor. In addition to helping aid in collecting her readers' details, they also offer people a taste of coaching style.

She also has an Instagram page -- which boasts more than 10,000 followers. She also gets press from external sources by interviewing people on podcasts, blogs as well as magazines.

She opted for a price that is affordable.

Jo is determined to make her journeys accessible to everyone, particularly since actors tend to be in a state of flux with their income. "If you visited an acting school once per week, it would cost you between $300-$400. Most of the time, you just sit there and watch others perform scene and occasionally it's a chance to take a turn," she said.

"These online journeys are much less expensive," continues Jo. "The benefits of our travels are 10 times more than what we sell to customers. ."

The Reset has a price less than $1,000 USD. The Purposeful Actor cost $1250 USD and membership costs $270 USD per month.

She stayed in her zone of genius

Even though she is the chief executive officer of To Be Or Not To Act, Jo is firm in her determination to focus all more time with her inner genius--which is coaching and creating the content. She doesn't feel tech-savvy, preferring to stay "in in the flow" doing the things she excels at. "The remaining tasks that run a business, aren't my forte because this isn't my field of genius," she says.

Jo attributes her success to hiring a coach early on. As she was ready to create evergreen journeys and she decided to take a chance and enrolled in a class of $20k to help her do so. "It was a big stretch that required me to borrow half of the amount. But I'm glad that I made it happen," she shares.

She believes that it's possible that anyone can create an online course that is successful. But, she advises that this isn't an easy task.

"It is a commitment and determination, and you have to feel passionate about the work you're working on. In my case, this is all I've ever been doing since switching professions in my early twenties and that's the only thing I'll undertake. This passion makes it so that when it gets tough and I'm not going to give up. ."

She was inspired by her heart to create.

She suggests online creators be realistic about the hard work that they'll need to put into building an online business--and recommends that they do so only when the subject they're teaching is one that's close to their hearts.

"The risk now is when you go on social networks, you'll find that everyone's coaching you and everyone claims that it is to make millions in two minutes, which isn't the truth," says Jo. "It is true that if something is you are passionate about, you can reach the world's largest audience than your neighborhood. But it takes legwork, and it takes falling and then getting up. The process involves coaching and investing your time and money until your foundation is built ."

Like Jo If you start a business from your heart, it gives you the stamina to persevere through the tough times.

"An online company isn't merely an opportunity for you to earn profits. It should be developed by your heart, based on the work you're supposed to be doing. If you don't, you'll drop the ball because it will feel too hard." she explains.

"If you're on purpose, you'll be ready to face the obstacles. If you're looking to make a quick buck it won't be possible to handle them. My advice is to apply your passions to your heart. You must excel at the job you're doing because of a high level of competition. It is essential to be confident in what you're doing. ."

She remained in integrity with her craft

If asked about the trending in online courses that we could observe in 2024, Jo thinks there will continue to be a surplus of programs online. She believes that the major differentiator between the "McDonald's" courses as well as the "gourmet" classes will be the ones that have been designed with integrity.

"When there's an abundance of something, there'll be two types of online work. There will be McDonald's kind of courses. Then there will be the reliable and gourmet classes. Everyone is going to have plans to achieve something or the other with your life, but it won't be out of a genuine source, and then there will be people who've been doing this for years," she says.

In order to create the gourmet style of course she suggests you return to your heart.

"There is a huge potential for anyone who is grounded by their hearts and desires to serve others," she continues. "The those who require what you have to offer will find you ."

"I'm happy that it allows us to be human in the things that matter to us. It's incredible."
