Managers and leaders have a focus on improving the performance of their businesses, such as returns on investment (ROI) but the likelihood is that creativity may not be the first option in the employee arsenal you think of. However, Natalie Nixon, creativity strategist and co-founder of Figure 8 Thinking is of the opinion that it should be.
"Creativity isn't something you can be able to. It is essential to have."
Creativity is the fuel for the innovation process.
It's believed that being creative is something only creative people do. Natalie says that it's proof the truth that we're not conscious of what creativity is or how frequently we actually utilize it in the workplace.
"Creativity is the ability of a person to be able to alternate between wonder and rigor when it comes to tackling problems, produce worth and contribute to meaning."
If we are committed to increasing our creativity this leads to behavior that allows for creativity. Focusing on creativity allows us to change our routines, and breaks old mental models, and allows us to engage with more people.
Soft skills have been proven to be important
Natalie is fond of thinking of the term "innovation" as a way of thinking about inventions that are of a particular dimensions. Since creativity is the catalyst to transform an idea into innovative ideas, it offers an immediate profit from investing for businesses.
There's one question: even though evidence suggest that there is evidence that suggests the World Economic Forum rates creativity as the second-most important ability for becoming a highly efficient employee in 2030 and even beyond. there is a difference in the recognition of that creativity is important and the importance of engaging in creativity.
Three ways to alter our mental model towards creative direction.
Natalie is a specialist of the 3iCreativity Framework to shift mental patterns towards a more imaginative mindset. It is a combination of three areas of activity that include improvisation and inquiry, and even intuition.
1. A change from the security of a life to a curiosity
The reason for curiosity is a gap in information. Natalie claims that in the current mindset, the best thing to do is watch rather than learn. The best strategies that can be used to benefit from the shift are to be focused on the creative process by engaging in creative thinking and keeping an expert on staff for any questions.
2. Transition from rationalization to intuition
It is easy to rely on our intuition or "gut" to help guide our choices without realizing the process is taking place. Natalie recommends that recording "the the"nudge" will help us to learn to rely on the nudge much more. The applications of this kind of mind shift are normalizing play and mainstreaming designs that involve emotion or sense.
3. The transition from making plans to inventing
The shift in mindset, specifically, can be stressful for people who fear of failure. Imagine this change in your mindset as the difference between a symphony which strives to become perfect, and an improvisational jazz group. Implementing improvisation in your practice could mean purchasing prototypes or launching pop-up stores.
